Ricochet Spider-Man was one of four temporary identities adopted by Peter Parker after he was framed for murder in 1995's Spider-Man (Vol. 1) #62. Seeking to clear his name, but unable to operate publicly as Spider-Man, Peter created several new costumes and personas.
The Ricochet persona, designed to appear separate from Spider-Man, involved a sleek, mostly black costume with a stylized "R" emblem. Ricochet fought crime with a similar, yet more agile, fighting style to Spider-Man, heavily emphasizing speed and acrobatic ricocheting off surfaces, as his name suggests.
Unlike Spider-Man, Ricochet frequently taunted criminals, displaying a more confident and even arrogant attitude. This was a deliberate attempt to distance himself from Spider-Man's perceived personality. Peter even worked with the villain Tombstone to try and create the illusion that Spider-Man and Ricochet were at odds.
The Ricochet identity, along with the others, was eventually discarded once Peter Parker cleared his name and resumed his role as Spider-Man.
